Absolutely! When you said it was planted, I was of the assumption that you meant live plants. Since they are actually of the non living variety, you don't need to worry about monitoring for nitrates at any specific level. Rather you'll be wanting to keep them as low as possible. Daily changes are still a very valid tool for maintaining water quality without too much "shock to the system". You can up the percentage, but that will depend on water test readings and just how your fish react to them. Some experimentation will tell you just what is going to work for you. Starting at 20% and slowly increasing the percentage over time (couple of weeks) will ease them into a good waterchange schedule without too much fuss . All things considered your gonna want to keep water quality as high as possible, so dont be affraid to grab the bucket.

Well , 2 weeks on and the main group of 7 are doing great all feeding and getting on fairly well.Only problem is the eighth one who I have put in a smaller , quieter tank , with two young female Siamese fighters and an Otto .It was just staying in the corner in the main tank and not eating so I just thought it was worth a try apart from the rest . I will try and fgeed it up so I can re-introduce it into the main tank but it is still hiding in the corner of the small tank , looking dark and still not seen it eat any frozen bloodworm, as yet .Well , 2 weeks on and the main group of 7 are doing great all feeding and getting on fairly well.Only problem is the eighth one who I have put in a smaller , quieter tank , with two young female Siamese fighters and an Otto .It was just staying in the corner in the main tank and not eating so I just thought it was worth a try apart from the rest . Stop giving them the blood worms. They'll eat the flake eventually. You might want to try some other foods too. Blood worms are not meant as a diet by themselves. You really want them to eat a variety of foods with a quality flake or pellet as a staple.

yeah, it's been a staple of the discus trade for years. Just make sure its good quality. If it isn't it can be hard for them to digest. Most of the stuff out there is good though. I'd get Hikari if possible. Mostly the beef heart is used to aid growth. Your going to find that feeding frozen food is going to get expensive. There are some recipes for DIY frozen food on the net that may help you out with that.

It'll have the Hikari logo and say Beef heart on the packaging. It'll be in the freezer of your LFS. If they have it you cant miss it. Just google , but most online retailers have a good selection of pellet foods . Just check out what they carry.

Here's a link to some DIY food recipes. food
