My Red Sev started having these strange marks show up on him and I have no idea what they are or how to treat them. None of the other fish in the tank have these spots. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? How should I go about treating this?
It is right behind the gills. ![]() ![]() This picture is not very clear but there is also a white spot forming on the bottom of his gill plate.

Have you noticed any of the other fish doing anything "fishy" (i.e. territorial behaviors)? What are your current water parameters?

Nitrates are at about 60 Nitrites are around 0 The water harness is around 300 Alkalinity is about 120 PH is around 7.4 These reading are from the test strips so I do not 100% trust them, but does that paint a better picture of the tank? |

We are going to do a major water change tonight and see if that will help clear these spots. We were also going to put in some salt, would that help or hurt the situation?

Yeah I would do a 60-70% water change, raise the temperature to 82 and add salt.

. . . and keep an eye out for infection and for similar wounds on your other fish.
